Founders’ Mission

Authors Valerie J. Lewis Coleman, LaTonya Branham and  Charlotte L. Jenkins founded the Dayton Book Expo in 2009 to connect avid book lovers with local and national bestselling authors. The Kidz Zone fosters a fun and interactive environment for children while promoting the importance of reading. Aspiring authors have access to publishers, editors and publicists in the writing and publishing sessions offered at the Dayton Book Expo. Our relationships with community, business, educational and private sponsors are valuable for helping us promote literacy. This spring event boasts annual enhancements that allow visitors from near and far to experience a fabulous, family-friendly literary affair in Dayton, Ohio. Valerie J. Lewis Coleman

Valerie J. Lewis Coleman serves professional speakers and experts to magnify and monetize their message by publishing quality books. She co-founded the Dayton Book Expo: the region’s premier book event. Since it’s inception in 2010, the expo has hosted over 500 authors and thousands of book lovers.

As a best-selling author and award-winning publisher, Valerie has helped thousands of aspiring authors navigate the mysterious labyrinth of self-publishing. With over fifteen years of experience in the book business, this expert divulges industry secrets on avoiding the top five mistakes made by new authors, pricing your book to sell and identifying dishonest publishers. Her dynamic presentation and knowledge of the business saves thousands of dollars, hours of research and tons of frustration by making publishing quick, easy and affordable.

Co-founder and author Charlotte L. Jenkins is the owner of 31 Woman LLC, a freelance writer for Jo Magazine and Vice-President of EU Book club. Charlotte has worked with several production companies including 1st Fruits Ministries as executive producer of the hit stage play Pleading My Case.  She is a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and Everything Underground in Indianapolis, IN. Through Charlotte’s  journey as a business owner, she found her ministry in the literary world as an author an a publisher. Charlotte debuted in Vanessa Miller’s Anthology called Have a Little Faith as a contributing writer. Her latest released titles are Jayden’s First Vacation: A Day at the Beach and Beacon of Hope:Surviving Abuse.




LaTonya BranhamLaTonya M. Branham is the author and editor of CultureSeek (1st and 2nd edition), Spirit Seek (2007), and The Academic Prayer (2013). She is also a two-time contributing writer to Chicken Soup for the Soul series: Devotional Stories for Women (2009) and Here Comes the Bride (2012). LaTonya earned a Master of Arts degree from Antioch University McGregor and a Bachelor of Science degree from Wilberforce University. She is completing doctoral studies in Leadership & Change in Higher Education at Antioch University. LaTonya is the founder and CEO of the Reader2Leader Foundation and Branham Consulting, LLC. She served as a college administrator and adjunct professor in the College of Education at Central State University. LaTonya and her husband serve in community outreach (First Fruits) and youth initiatives. Reading and sharing books are important elements of her life.
